1. Finger Detangle Hair with Shampoo (Shampoo is not always necessary)
If this is your first wash skip this step. Swish the hair around in a bowl of warm water with some Sulphate-free shampoo (preferably A
rgan oil shampoo, Tresemme silk shampoo or keracare hydrating shampoo). Run your hands through to make sure there are no tangles. Note: It is very important to use a shampoo that does not try the hair out such as the ones mentioned above
2. Rinse hair thoroughly
Rinse the hair with some plain water
3. Condition the hair
Apply an abundant amount of conditioner (
Tresemme silk and smooth conditioner or moisture rich conditioner) making sure to focus intently on the ends.
4. Put the hair in a plastic bag (If this is your first wash skip this step)
Leave the conditioner on the hair for 1-2 hours or overnight inside a plastic bag. This helps with keeping the hair extra soft. Do not close the bag, let air in.
5. Rinse hair with Luke warm water thoroughly for 2-3 minutes.
6. Tightly wrap the hair in a towel to soak up excess water.
7. Apply your natural hair product whilst the hair is damp
- For Kinky Coarse apply generously Argan oil OR jojoba oil OR coconut oil to define the curl pattern.
- For kinky Curls you can use keracare styling gel (or any curl defining gel)
- For kinky Straight add some john Freida frizz ease/chi silk infusion reconstructing complex (pea size amount) run through the hair whilst damp and leave to air dry.
8. Leave hair to AIR DRY on a flat surface.
ALWAYS air dry. Avoid using heat too often.
Tips~
- When straightening kinky straight hair always use the chase method with ONE pass (thin tooth comb followed by straightener) to avoid heat damage. For kinky curls and kinky coarse skip this step.
- If you need to comb the hair, ALWAYS use a wide-toothed comb.
- Kinky coarse hair takes more TIME and PATIENCE - be gentle to avoid shedding. Use oil and a spray bottle on hair frequently to keep it moisturised.
- When sewing down bundles avoid putting the needle through the weft - this will avoid shedding and keep wefts tidy for longer.
