How To Install Microlinks

Microlinks require a certain level of skill so it is ideally best to get them done by a professional like our microlinks expert. However, if you want to try doing the installation yourself or you're helping a friend out. Here are the steps you need to follow

The Installation Steps:

1. Shampoo and condition your hair to provide a clean slate for you to  work on.
2. Blow dry your hair and get it as straight as possible.
3. Starting at the back, make a straight horizontal part across your hair to create a small separate section.
4. Cut a smaller section of hair out of that initial section. (Make sure this section is not too big or too thin. Keep it around 1 inch in thickness)
5. Next, use the loop needle in our microlinks tool kit to slide one of the beads onto that tiny portion of hair.
6. Grab one microlinks extension piece and slide it into the bead.
7. Then, use a microlinks plier to clamp down the bead by pressing down firmly until the bead turns into a flat rectangular shape.
8. Portion out another small section of hair and repeat steps 4-7. Repeat the same steps until you cover your whole head.

Pro tip: you'll need to portion out a small section of your hair at the nape and the front. These will be your leave-out sections. Do not put any microlinks on them as they will cover the microlinks and make sure they are not detectable. Just combo the leave-out section with the rest of your microlinks after installation for a natural finish. 

How to Remove Microlinks Extensions

If you've been wondering if you can take out microlinks yourself? You absolutely can. However, here are a few key steps you need to follow to do it properly.

1. Divide your hair into 4-6 small sections.

2. Working on one section at a time, find the microlinks beads at the root of your hair.

3. Use microlinks pliers to lightly press each bead/tube into a round shape. (After installation, the beads are pressed into a rectangular shape, so just press on both ends of the rectangle to reverse it into a round shape).

4. Once the bead is circular, the extensions will start to slide off from your hair. Gently pull them out of your hair, making sure to hold the end of your hair as the extensions slide out.

5. Repeat the same thing on your entire head until all the microbeads and hair extensions are removed.

6. Apply a little bit of oil to your roots to remove any buildup with your fingers before proceeding to properly detangle your full hair.

Re-Using Your Microlinks Extensions

Now, the more question you probably have is how many times can you reuse microlinks. Well, if you take good care of your microlinks and maintain them properly after each installation, you can use them 4-5 times. 

However, if you want them to remain in good condition for your next installation, here are a few things you need to do

• Wash the hair extensions after removing them. Use a gentle shampoo or co-wash and gently detangle the hair to keep it smooth. When washing, gently massage the shampoo into the hair instead of scrubbing too hard.

• Make sure the hair is fully dry after washing and store it in a clean container.

• If you intend to reuse the bead/tubes on the microlink, avoid pressing them too hard with the pliers while removing them. However, the beads can be replaced with new ones during your next installation.
