5 Hair Essentials Every Black Girl Must Have

by To All My Black Girls on August 02, 2024

Over seven years now, I've been rocking my natural curls for a bit and I know how overwhelming it can feel when you're not sure what to do with it. However, one thing I've learned is to always have a few staples in my routine that I can trust to keep my hair healthy and gorgeous.

Not sure what essentials you need? Here are my top 5 favourite products I literally cannot live without.

1. Headband Wig

Anyone who knows me knows I love a headband wig. It is so convenient and super easy to just put it on when you don't know what to do with your hair. These days, the two that I'm really rocking are the Brazilian curly texture and the kinky curls. They are both perfect for going out and give you the most gorgeous curls and volume in less than a minute. I have a very busy schedule and need something I can easily throw when I want to quickly pop out. So a headband wig is essential that I wear almost every day.

2. Drawstring Ponytail

I'm too busy and don't have time to do anything extreme so I love ponytails because they are easy and perfect for the summer. I am such a sleek ponytail girl, that I will literally wear it until my edges fall out (don't do that😂). One thing I've learnt though, is to not wear them super tight. The key to managing your natural hair with ponytails is to keep them loose.

3. Kinky Straight Weft

A sew-in is another classic look I love to wear when I want something long-term. I usually have it on for about two months. The kinky straight is my go-to weave. It is my first choice when I want to look sexy and cute.

4. Detangling Brush

This brush is literally a lifesaver and I use it every single time I need to comb or wash my hair. Detangling has always been a main source of pain and discomfort for people with natural hair and I do not believe black women should have to suffer just to get their hair done. I don’t have any more pain while washing my hair because of this brush. I even take it with me to the saloon, just in case they don't have it.

5. Satin Bonnet

I can't live without a bonnet. I have seen how much healthier my hair is when I wear it so I have to go to bed with it every single night. For me the quality of a bonnet is also very important because not all “satin bonnets'' are real satin; many are made from polyester and can be damaging to your hair. That's why our high-quality satin bonnet is essential for my nighttime routine.
